Blog. People First: Why Agilysys Supports Hospitality Action.

For Agilysys, supporting the hospitality industry means looking beyond the technology that keeps businesses running and recognising the people behind it. As a corporate supporter of Hospitality Action, Agilysys has backed a number of our initiatives, from the Summer Cycle Challenge and Winter Chefs’ Dinner to our annual Taking the Temperature mental health survey.
We spoke to Ben Curtis, Managing Director - EMEA. Agilysys, about why Hospitality Action’s work resonates, what prompted their support and why looking after the people behind hospitality matters to the future of our industry.
What is it about Hospitality Action's work that resonates most with Agilysys?
Hospitality Action gets something core: the people who run our industry matter. We build software that helps hotels and resorts operate better and serve guests better. But that all sits on the backs of real people. Housekeeping staff. Chefs. Front desk teams working grueling shifts for modest pay. Hospitality Action fills a gap nobody else does. They show up for hospitality people in genuine crisis. Financial hardship. Mental health struggles. They provide immediate, practical help. We recognize that approach. The industry can't be healthy if the people in it aren't supported.
How does supporting Hospitality Action align with Agilysys' values?
We talk about "putting the customer first" and "developing our employees and leaders." Those aren't abstractions for us. Supporting Hospitality Action is an extension of that same belief. We're investing in the industry's foundation. We're saying that operational efficiency and guest experience don't happen without a workforce that's financially secure and mentally well. It's not charity. It's recognition that we're part of an ecosystem. When hospitality workers thrive, the whole sector benefits.
This year you've supported the Summer Cycle Challenge, Winter Chefs' Dinner, and the mental health survey. Why were these projects particularly appealing?
These programs are tangible. The Cycle Challenge and Chefs' Dinner get the hospitality community actively involved. Not passive donation requests. Events where people participate together. That builds morale and visibility. The mental health survey is what moves us most, though. It's data. Real insight into what's actually happening in our industry. Not assumptions. Actual numbers on burnout, financial stress, wellbeing gaps. That's how we solve problems. You understand the real picture first, then you act. Hospitality Action's survey gives everyone the evidence to make better decisions.
What would you say to other hospitality businesses considering supporting Hospitality Action?
Do it. Your team already knows someone who's struggled with the things Hospitality Action handles. Someone in your property who had a sudden crisis. Financial emergency. Health issue. Mental health crisis. Hospitality work pays people poorly relative to the stress and hours. Supporting Hospitality Action isn't about corporate virtue signaling. It's smart self-interest. A team that knows their employer backs them up when life breaks stays longer. Works harder. Cares more. Plus, Hospitality Action's efficient. They don't waste money. Every pound goes to actual people in actual trouble. If you claim to value your team, you should be backing an organization that proves it when the chips are down.
From bringing the hospitality community together through events to building a clearer picture of the challenges facing the workforce, Agilysys’ support reflects a belief that a thriving industry starts with its people.
