Blog. Three Cheers for our HA Volunteers!

June 01, 2021 | Author Mark Lewis

Tuesday 1st of June to Monday 7th of June 2021 marks national Volunteers’ Week.

Hospitality Action joins many like-minded organisations in celebrating the amazing work of our volunteers.

We are so proud and very grateful for their support. They all tirelessly work with us across the breadth of our charity’s work. From Trustees, Patrons, Ambassadors, committee members, regional fundraisers to all telephone befrienders who offer life lines to our Golden Friends many of whom were at increased risk of social isolation during the pandemic.

Our volunteers stepped up magnificently throughout the last 14 months: those already actively volunteering to support our Golden Friends, joined forces with an ever-increasing number of dedicated new volunteers and got to work calling those who requested our help and support. They offered a much needed listening ear and were able to actively signpost many Golden Friends to additional support available from Hospitality Action including help and advice for those recently bereaved, comforting retirees whose network of family and friends were unable to provide the care they had prior to the first lockdown and reassuring those who were feeling worried and anxious about what was going on around them as they found it difficult to deal with the pandemic, practically and emotionally.

Without our volunteers we simply wouldn’t be able to have the outreach and provide the support that was needed. An extraordinary year, in which our volunteers made over 2000 calls, a simple check-in but a vital one.

This week we are delighted to be able to recognise and celebrate our amazing volunteer force and their contribution to Hospitality Action’s vital work.

Earlier this year we launched our Values to the HA team and we felt that this week was the perfect time to share them with you as they very much guide the way we all work to support some of the most vulnerable people working in and/or retired from our industry. Our volunteers truly live these values and we really can’t thank them enough for their vital contribution to our charity, which receives no government funding and only with the help of our volunteers and the wider industry can we support those who turn to us.

HA’S VALUES

Approachable … Committed … Together we make a difference …

Integrity … Open … Nourishing.

So, here’s to you, on behalf of the HA team and all the beneficiaries you help us to support. We look forward to many more years of healthy and successful collaboration.

Thank you and three cheers for our amazing volunteers!
