Blog. Careerscope Support Hub Open Today

September 28, 2020 | Author: Mark Lewis

Hospitality is the industry sector arguably most severely affected by COVID-19. When the Government signalled businesses should close on 23 March, thousands simply ceased trading, or terminated the employment of all casual, contract and self-employed staff, many of whom were ineligible for government help.

Now, with new hospitality restrictions in place and uncertainty mounting, it’s never been more important to look after our people and ensure they are happy, healthy, ready for work - and gainfully employed. For this reason, we’ve joined forces with Springboard, UKHospitality, the Savoy Educational Trust and the Institute of Hospitality to launch CareerScope.

CareerScope is an online support hub for people whose careers in hospitality, leisure or tourism have been fractured due to COVID-19. The hub offers easy-to-access content on everything from CV writing and career webinars to redundancy advice, financial support and health and wellbeing resources (the latter provided by Hospitality Action). Digital training modules will keep those out of work up to date on essential skills, from customer service and food safety to confidence and assertiveness. Our ambition is that CareerScope will keep people engaged, motivated, healthy and ready to work when the world is spinning on its axis again.

As HA ambassador Mitchell Collier, Reception Manager at The Mayfair Townhouse, says:

“In normal times, the marvellous people who work across our industry focus their passion and dedication on our guests. But we are facing one of the biggest challenges the industry has ever seen, and the same passion and dedication will need to be applied to supporting and guiding hospitality individuals facing hardship brought on by Covid-19. This new initiative will offer a guiding light for those in need. The recovery process has begun and, with our industry giants leading the way, we’ll recover and we’ll thrive.”

If your career has been affected by the pandemic please visit CareerScope and explore its resources – and please let your friends and colleagues know about it. With Careerscope’s resources and the collective resilience and resolve of the wonderful people who work in hospitality, leisure and tourism, we’ll weather this storm and get back to doing what we love best – delighting customers and guests.
