Tell us why you've chosen to do this challenge specifically, and why in October?
I've wanted to take on a challenge like this for a long time, but never felt fit enough or ready. After a lot of training, I finally do, and it feels like the right moment to commit.
Running 5K every day for 31 days will be as much about consistency as fitness, and that's something I know well from working in hospitality. You show up and deliver even when it's tough, and this challenge is my way of holding myself to that standard.
That's also why October felt right. World Mental Health Day falls on the 10th, and getting outside is one of the most powerful things you can do for your mental health. I'd love for people to join me on a run, step away from their desks, and feel comfortable talking about whatever's on their mind.
Why did you choose Hospitality Action as your chosen charity for this challenge?
I saw first-hand the difference Hospitality Action can make when a young housekeeper at a hotel I used to work at died suddenly. The charity's support for the team was exceptional, and it's something I've never forgotten.
I've spent my whole career in hospitality, so this cause is close to home. If the money I raise helps even one person in the industry through a difficult time, I'll be very happy with what this challenge has achieved.
There are so many people out there who would love to do something like this who may feel they could never complete it.
Do you have any advice for people considering a challenge like this?
To be honest, I'm not sure I can complete this myself, and that's exactly what's driving me. I'm hugely competitive and I push myself constantly, and knowing that people are donating means I have to see it through.
I truly believe anyone can take on a challenge like this. It comes down to committing the time and leaning on the support around you. It isn't about record times, it's about finishing.
What will you do to stay motivated and keep the challenge going every day in October?
I know the team at the hotel will be in my ear and won't let it drop. The support we have for one another as a Grand family is one of the things that makes our hotel so special, and I can't think of a better group of people to have behind me.
I also know people will join me for runs, which will make the tougher days a lot easier.
