Mental Health Awareness Week

May 11, 2026 | Author Sophie Dodsworth

Mental Health Awareness Week takes place from 11–17 May, and this year’s theme is action - a powerful reminder that small, meaningful steps can make a real difference. Whether it's supporting your own wellbeing, checking in with a colleague, or contributing to a healthier, more open workplace culture, every action counts.

What does taking action look like?

Taking action for your mental wellbeing doesn’t need to be complicated. It could be:

  • Starting a conversation with someone you haven’t heard from in a while.
  • Exploring coping strategies that work for you, such as mindful breaks, journaling, or time outdoors.
  • Noticing when you’re feeling overwhelmed and taking a step back rather than pushing through.
  • Asking a colleague how they’re really doing - and being ready to listen.
  • Learning where support is available before you need it.

These kinds of actions help reduce stigma and make it easier for people to seek help early, rather than waiting until things reach a crisis point.

You don't have to do it alone.

Support is a crucial part of taking action. No one is expected to manage everything by themselves, and knowing where to turn can make all the difference.

Hospitality Action’s helpline offers in-the-moment emotional support, and advice on a wide range of personal and financial issues. Lines are open 24/7 on 0808 802 0282.

For organisations looking to go a step further, our Employee Assistance Programme is here to provide modern mental health support. Our 24/7 availability and hospitality-specific care ensures that help is only a call away. Whether it’s a long shift, a difficult customer, or the stress of an unpredictable work environment, we’re here to help.

If you'd like to further protect your team by subscribing to our Employee Assistance Programme, please get in touch here.
