At Hospitality Action, we’re lucky to have a community of supporters who stand by our industry through thick and thin. One of them is Alexandros Kaloudas, food and beverage manager at Pullman London St Pancras, a long-time regular giver whose monthly donations help us be there when people need us most.
We caught up with Alexandros to find out why he gives, and what Hospitality Action means to him.
Please tell us a little about yourself.
I have been fortunate to build a career in hospitality over the past 13 years, working in various roles that have given me a deep appreciation for the hard work and dedication required in this industry. Whether it was a waiter, supervisor, restaurant manager or food and beverage manager, each experience taught me the importance of teamwork and resilience.
Outside of work, I’m passionate about wine which often complements my professional life by keeping me creative and grounded. I am currently studying for the WSET Diploma in Wines and I am a member of the Wine Society.
What inspired you to support Hospitality Action with a regular donation?
I’ve seen first hand how challenging and often unpredictable the hospitality industry can be. It’s an industry built on hard work, long hours and a deep commitment to service, yet many of the people behind the scenes don’t have a safety net when things go wrong. Knowing that Hospitality Action provides support to individuals and families during tough times really resonated with me. It felt like a meaningful way to give back to an industry that touches so many lives, often without much recognition.
Why do you choose to give regularly, rather than do one-off donations?
I choose to give regularly because consistent support allows charities like Hospitality Action to plan ahead and offer reliable help to those who need it. One-off donations are helpful, but regular giving helps ensure that assistance is available year-round, not just in moments of crisis. For me, it’s also a way to stay connected to the cause and remind myself that small, steady contributions can create lasting change over time.
Is there an aspect of the work we do that particularly interests/moves you?
One aspect of the work Hospitality Action does that particularly moves me is the focus on supporting the mental wellbeing of hospitality workers. The hospitality industry can be incredibly demanding and high-pressure, and the emotional toll is often overlooked. Knowing that Hospitality Action offers dedicated mental health support, counselling, and resources to help workers cope is important to me. Mental wellbeing is the foundation for everything else, without it, financial support or other assistance can only go so far.
Alexandros’ story is just one example of the powerful impact our regular givers have. If you’ve ever thought about supporting Hospitality Action in a lasting way, we’d love for you to join our regular giving family. It’s simple, flexible and changes lives. Learn more.
