We are immensely proud of Lyndsey Blair from Buzzworks, who has made history by completing the world’s toughest triathlon – and did so in support of Hospitality Action (HA). A mother of three, Lyndsey is the first Scot ever to conquer the Enduroman Arch to Arc challenge, a gruelling run, swim, and cycle from London to Paris. She now joins an elite group as only the 65th person, and just the 15th woman, to finish this extraordinary feat. We caught up with Lyndsey to hear more about her epic adventure and the inspiration behind her fundraising for HA:
Can you let us know what the Enduroman Arch to Arc Triathlon is, and what inspired you to do it?
The Enduroman Arch to Arc is known as the toughest triathlon in the world. It starts with an 87-mile run from London’s Marble Arch to Dover, followed by a 21-mile solo swim across the English Channel and then finishes with a 181-mile cycle from Calais to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Fewer than 70 people have ever completed it.
I was drawn to it because it’s such a sheer test of endurance: running, swimming, and cycling, all back-to-back, with no shortcuts. Over the years, I’ve built up from Ironman races to a Channel swim, so this felt like the natural next step.
More importantly, it gave me a chance to raise money for two charities that I really believe in, and to show my kids what’s possible when you set your mind to something.
Which part of the journey pushed you the hardest, and which part was the most rewarding?
Without doubt, the swim across the Channel was the hardest. It’s not just about the distance, it’s the conditions. Freezing water, unpredictable tides and the mental battle of being out there alone with nothing but your own thoughts, but I just kept reminding myself why I was doing it and kept pushing forward.
The most rewarding part was arriving in Paris and seeing my family and support crew waiting at the Arc de Triomphe. After all the hours of training and the ups and downs along the way, having them there to share that moment with me was incredible. It wasn’t just my achievement, it felt like ours, and that’s something I’ll never forget.
Only 65 people worldwide have completed this challenge – how does it feel to be the first Scot among them?
It still hasn’t quite sunk in. To be honest, I never set out thinking ‘I want to be the first Scot’, it was always about the personal challenge and raising funds for charity. But standing at the Arc de Triomphe and realising I’d just made a bit of history was special.
Scotland has such a strong sporting spirit and to know I’ve added to that story makes me proud. I hope it also shows other people that there’s no one type of person who can take on something like this. With consistency, determination and a lot of support, you really can surprise yourself with what’s possible.
What do you see as the main benefits of the Employee Assistance Programme for employees?
The Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) is such a valuable source of support for people in hospitality. The EAP gives people somewhere to turn when they’re struggling, whether it’s with mental health, financial worries, or family issues. Sometimes, just knowing that confidential help is there makes a huge difference.
In my own life, I know the importance of having the right support around me to be able to perform at my best, whether that’s in sport, work, or at home. The EAP works in the same way for our teams at Buzzworks. It’s about giving them the tools, reassurance and guidance they need, so they don’t feel alone and can thrive inside and outside of work.
You have raised over £25,000 for your chosen charities. Why did you choose to support Hospitality Action?
Hospitality Action does incredible work for people in our industry. Hospitality is about people, whether that be caring for guests, creating experiences or working as a team, but behind the scenes, it can be tough. Many people face challenges like mental health struggles, financial hardship, or the pressure of juggling work and family life.
Hospitality Action provides practical help, training and wellbeing support to those who need it most. Choosing to raise money for them felt like a way to give back to an industry that has given so much to so many people in our industry. Knowing that the funds will directly support people at difficult times made every mile of this challenge worthwhile.
