Blog. New training - Bullying and Harassment.

May 27, 2025 | Author Jeremy Gibson

Every day in the UK, 17 people die by suicide, and three-quarters of them are men. Suicide remains the leading cause of death for people under the age of 35 - and yet stigma, silence, and lack of awareness often stand in the way of life-saving intervention.

People may take their own life for a variety of reasons, often stemming from overwhelming emotional pain, feelings of hopelessness and a sense of isolation. Mental health conditions like depression, anxiety and trauma can exacerbate those feelings and make it difficult for someone to see a way out of their suffering.

Other factors, such as stressful life events, loss, financial difficulties or lack of social support, can also contribute to suicidal feelings. Often, those struggling feel misunderstood or trapped, leading them to believe that ending their life is the only way to find relief.

Hospitality Action X Elevo Logo Black

Research has shown that a substantial portion of hospitality workers experience poor mental health, including suicidal thoughts. The demands of the industry can put workers at real risk of burnout and serious mental health issues, which, without proper support, can escalate if unseen and unaddressed.

At Hospitality Action, we believe that suicide prevention is everyone’s responsibility. That’s why we’re proud to offer specialist training in partnership with Elevo to help hospitality teams recognise and support people in crisis.
