We are indebted to the countless individuals and organisations who devote their time, energy, and resources to uplift those we support. Today, we shine a spotlight on one such inspirational figure Jane Pendlebury, CEO of HOSPA, whose commitment to HA has touched countless lives.

Tell us a little about HOSPA and your role as CEO.
HOSPA is the UK’s leading organisation for hospitality professionals specialising in finance, technology, revenue management, marketing, asset management and commercial disciplines. Our mission is to support and connect the talented individuals who keep our industry running – from hotel finance teams to commercial directors and everyone in between. As CEO, a role I’ve had the privilege of holding for more than nine years, I’m committed to championing professional development, while sharing best practice and fostering collaboration across the sector. We do this through a wide range of initiatives, from our highly regarded events – including HOSPACE – to bespoke training programmes and networking opportunities. We’re also very active in making introductions and helping members grow their professional circles. At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to elevating standards and encouraging innovation, while giving our members the tools and support they need to succeed in an ever-evolving landscape.

How has HOSPA supported Hospitality Action?
Hospitality Action has long been one of HOSPA’s chosen charities, and we are incredibly proud of our ongoing relationship. Over the years, we have dedicated our fundraising efforts to support their vital work – most notably during our flagship annual conference, HOSPACE, and at the Hotel Marketing Awards, where we actively raise awareness and funds. These events provide an ideal platform to unite industry professionals behind a shared cause, and the generosity we see from our members and delegates is always heartening. Supporting Hospitality Action allows us to give something meaningful back to the very people who form the lifeblood of our industry. The work they do touches lives every day – whether it's offering a lifeline during times of personal crisis or providing essential resources and support. As a community of hospitality professionals, we believe it’s our duty and privilege to champion their mission at every opportunity.

How does supporting Hospitality Action align with HOSPA’s values and goals?
At HOSPA, our purpose is to support the commercial and professional growth of individuals within hospitality – equipping them with the knowledge, networks and tools they need to thrive. Hospitality Action shares that same ethos of care and development, albeit from a different but equally vital perspective. While we focus on professional advancement, Hospitality Action provides emotional and financial, as well as practical support for those facing hardship – ensuring no one in our sector is left behind. We firmly believe strong business culture starts with empathetic leadership. That’s why we’re passionate about encouraging senior figures across the industry to recognise the profound and far-reaching impact that Hospitality Action has. Their work complements our mission beautifully and reinforces the principle that looking after people – at every stage of their journey – is key to a resilient, thriving hospitality industry.

What keeps you committed to supporting Hospitality Action?
Quite simply – it’s the incredible work they do. The lives they touch and the ease with which they make it possible for organisations like ours to get involved is invaluable. Hospitality Action operates with such compassion and efficiency that supporting them never feels like an obligation; it feels like an honour. Their response during the pandemic, for example, was nothing short of extraordinary – acting quickly to provide emergency grants and crucial support when the industry was in crisis. That moment reinforced to many just how vital their work is and solidified our long-term commitment to their cause. We continue to support them not only because of their track record, but because of their unwavering dedication to helping those who might otherwise fall through the cracks. Partnering with them is one of the most impactful ways HOSPA can contribute to the wellbeing of our sector’s workforce – and it’s something we’re immensely proud of.

What advice would you give to other industry leaders looking to support Hospitality Action?
My advice is simple: just do it – and if I could, I’d add the Nike tick! Supporting Hospitality Action isn’t just the right thing to do morally; it’s also the smart thing to do as a business leader who cares about their people. The speed and clarity of their response during the pandemic showcased just how effective and well-organised they are. They’re not just there in times of national emergency either – their daily work helps individuals overcome addiction, mental health challenges, financial distress and more. For any organisation serious about fostering a caring and supportive culture, partnering with Hospitality Action is a perfect fit. It sends a strong message to your team that their wellbeing matters. And from a practical perspective, they make it easy to get involved – whether through fundraising, and events or advocacy. So don’t overthink it. Align with them, support them, and help spread the word.

Many thanks to Jane and everyone at HOSPA for their unfaltering support. If your place of work or industry association can do the same, please get in touch.
