Blog. School Uniform Grants - a huge thank you

Back to school got a bit easier, thanks to you.

A few weeks ago we asked our supporters to help us top-up our School Uniform Grant so we could help support hospitality workers on low incomes by contributing towards school uniform costs. And thanks to your generosity we’ve been able to kit out over 200 children with brand new school uniform as they start school this week.

When we launched our new grant we were very aware of the fact that the summer holidays were an expensive time for parents on low incomes – the media has been full of stories of increased food bank usage during the summer holidays so we anticipated it’d be popular.

For our pilot scheme we allocated a fund of £10,000 which was very quickly over-subscribed. Thanks to your generosity just over £2,000 extra was raised which meant we were able to kit out 200 hospitality children with a fresh new uniform, and they’ll be walking tall as they start their new classes this week.

School Uniforms will now join our well-established Winter Fuel scheme meaning we can provide people with needs-based support at key times of the year. We are seeking industry support to grow the scheme to £20k plus next year. If you’d like to sponsor our school uniforms programme on a corporate basis we’ll make sure your support is included in our communications campaign which includes back of house posters, email communication and regular blog posts.

Thanks for all your donations this year.
