You know you want to do something for charity, but you don’t know what!
Well it’s not always about money, why not volunteer your time?
Can you help promote our Golden Friends scheme by putting a poster up at your work place, local post office, community centre or library etc? Click here for the poster or telephone the office on 020 3004 5500 to have some sent to you.
Regional Golden Friends Lunches – these get-togethers provide an ideal opportunity for retirees from the industry to meet up with old friends or make new ones. If you can donate a lunch please click here for more details.
Can you support one of our Golden Friends get togethers across the UK by being a Volunteer Host? You would be meeting and greeting our Golden Friends on arrival, taking a few pictures for our literature (without letting your own food go cold!) and assisting in getting everyone chatting click here for more details.
Do you enjoy having a chat and building a friendship? So do our Golden Friends, but many are lonely or isolated. We are looking for caring volunteers to join our valued team. Your time commitment need only be an hour or two a month but you will gain valuable friendships and the pleasure of knowing you are helping others who need it.
Our Phone Friend’s Scheme is for anyone who enjoys a chat over the phone. Volunteers call once a month for a catch up and check all is ok.
“I am 89 years old and live in a small village in Wales. Whilst I have a loving family who visit when they can, I really love having ‘Mark’ my Phone Friend in my life. I was a bit sceptical about the whole volunteer thing at first but now I am very pleased to have someone to talk to, well listen to my stories! Mark is more than a voice on the phone, we have built up a great friendship and he is part of my extended family.”
Our Visiting Scheme offers a volunteer to visit a Golden Friends in their own home every two months for a friendly chat and to see how they are doing.
“I lost my sight seven years ago. When Hospitality Action set up the volunteer visitor scheme I was quick to apply. Very soon I met Denise and for the past four years she has been visiting me. She is a charming kind woman and we chat over a cup of tea. Denise and I went for a spin and tea last Thursday. It was a great treat I am most grateful to HA for setting up this service, which gives me another valuable link to the hospitality industry.”
Our Golden Friends scheme offers support and a listening ear to industry retirees. We have over 1,300 Golden Friends across the UK and are looking to expand our befriending schemes so we can stay in touch with everyone who wishes it.
Volunteers need no previous experience and will receive training and ongoing support from head office.
